Freycinet’s Newest Vineyard & Cellar Door: Introducing Kitty’s Mistake Wines

Something new is quietly growing on Tasmania’s East Coast.

Located along the gateway into Freycinet National Park, Wineglass Bay Estate is home to Freycinet’s newest vineyard and cellar door experience — Kitty’s Mistake Wines.

While the vineyard itself is young, officially planted in March 2026, the vision behind it has been years in the making.

Set across waterfront landscape overlooking the internationally recognised Moulting Lagoon region, the estate combines luxury accommodation, vineyard surrounds and one of the most unique cellar door settings on Tasmania’s East Coast.

Vineries in Tasmania

Pinot Noir Planted on Tasmania’s East Coast

The first hectare of Pinot Noir vines has now been planted at Wineglass Bay Estate, with the vineyard positioned on terrain and soil conditions comparable to some of the famous cool-climate wine regions of Burgundy.

Like all good things in wine, great vineyards take time.

The vines are still young and not yet ready for harvest, but they mark the beginning of what will become one of Tasmania’s newest East Coast wine experiences.

In the meantime, Kitty’s Mistake Wines has sourced premium grapes from Tasmania’s East Coast wine region to begin producing its first wines ahead of the estate vineyard reaching maturity.

The Cellar Door You Can’t Miss on the Way to Freycinet

Positioned directly along Coles Bay Road on the drive into Freycinet National Park, the Wineglass Bay Estate cellar door is impossible to miss.

The striking black American barn structure sits overlooking the lagoon and surrounding landscape, creating what may become one of the most memorable wine stops on Tasmania’s East Coast.

Guests arriving at the estate are greeted with:

  • waterfront views

  • vineyard surrounds

  • native wildlife

  • dramatic East Coast sunsets

  • peaceful lagoon scenery

The setting feels less like a traditional cellar door and more like a luxury nature retreat immersed in Tasmania’s landscape.

A New East Coast Tasmania Experience

Wineglass Bay Estate is one of the newest luxury stays on Tasmania’s East Coast, with eight adults-only retreats positioned across the waterfront property.

Located only minutes from Friendly Beaches and approximately 13 minutes from Freycinet National Park, the estate offers a quieter and more spacious alternative to busier tourist accommodation areas.

The experience is designed around slower travel:

  • beach walks

  • wine and cheese afternoons

  • sunsets over the lagoon

  • wildlife

  • peaceful mornings

  • East Coast exploration

Our Favourite Way to Experience Wineglass Bay Estate

Our recommendation?

Spend the day exploring Freycinet National Park, Wineglass Bay and Tasmania’s East Coast, then return to Wineglass Bay Estate for a slower afternoon overlooking the water with a glass of wine and local cheese board in hand.

As the light changes across the lagoon and black swans move through the wetlands, it becomes very easy to understand why people fall in love with this part of Tasmania.

Because let’s be honest—every great experience deserves to be celebrated with a bottle of wine.
