Wineglass Bay

Tasmania’s most photographed destination — just 15 minutes from Wineglass Bay Estate

Few places define Tasmania quite like Wineglass Bay. Instantly recognisable for its sweeping crescent of white sand, clear turquoise water and dramatic granite peaks, it is widely regarded as the most photographed spot in the state — and one of Australia’s great natural icons.

Located within Freycinet National Park, Wineglass Bay is an easy 15-minute scenic drive from Wineglass Bay Estate, making it an effortless highlight of your stay. Early mornings and late afternoons offer the best experience, with softer light, fewer visitors and uninterrupted views across the bay.

The walk to the famous lookout is achievable for most fitness levels and rewards you with the postcard-perfect panorama seen around the world. From here, you can either return the same way or continue down to Wineglass Bay Beach itself — a longer but rewarding walk that brings you right to the shoreline of one of Tasmania’s most pristine beaches.

Before you go, a few things to know:

  • A Tasmanian Parks Pass is required to enter Freycinet National Park

  • Bring water, sunscreen and sturdy walking shoes

  • You can choose the most popular walk to the lookout, or extend your hike down to the beach

  • Allow extra time if you plan to walk all the way to the sand and back

After the climb, there’s no better way to end your day than returning to Wineglass Bay Estate — shoes off, glass poured, and a cheese platter and local wine enjoyed slowly as the light fades over the lagoon. It’s the perfect full stop to a day spent exploring one of Tasmania’s most extraordinary places.
