Sunset Drinks, Bocce and Live Music on Moulting Lagoon

After a day on the Wineglass Bay track, most people want somewhere to sit outside with a drink and a view. On Coles Bay Road, the cellar door at Wineglass Bay Estate has a big open lawn running down to Moulting Lagoon, a bocce court, fire pits, live music on weekends, and sunsets that stop conversations.

A big outdoor area right on the water

The outdoor area is the heart of the cellar door: plenty of room to spread out, with outdoor tables and chairs, fire pits for when the evening cools, and open water and the ranges in every direction. Bring friends, claim a spot and stay a while. Above it all, the 25-metre balcony gives you the lagoon from a little higher up.

Bocce by the lagoon

The bocce court is the easiest way to turn one glass into an afternoon. No experience needed, just a drink in the other hand.

Live music

Live music plays regularly on weekends and through the summer season, setting the soundtrack for long afternoons on the lawn. Follow @kittysmistakewines on Instagram for upcoming dates.

Epic sunsets over Moulting Lagoon

Late afternoon is the time to come. The sunset is visible from right across the property, so wherever you settle, the sky lights up over the water, the lagoon goes still, and the birdlife settles in for the evening. Moulting Lagoon is a Ramsar-listed wetland, so you are watching the sunset over one of Tasmania's most important waterbird habitats.

What to drink

Order a glass or bottle of Kitty's Mistake, our own small-batch wine made with East Coast fruit, and add a local cheese platter. There are no formal tastings and no rush. When the evening cools, pull a chair up to a fire pit, or head inside to the fire under the barn's six-metre ceilings.

Opening hours and getting here

  • Open daily, 12pm to 5.30pm. Walk-ins welcome.
